Born in Baton Rouge, LA and a three-time graduate of Southern University A&M College, music has always pulled at her heart strings.  The music on the album “Best Kept Secret”, mostly produced by Armando Colon from 2003-2005 have been performed with her live band for several years and have received much airplay on Atlanta’s WRFG, thanks to DJ Tabone’s relentless support.  Songs such as the ever-popular “Love Shampoo”, produced by Brad Lewis and Tim “Headliner” Barnwell of Arrested Development on their label Stress Free Entertainment, and “Goodbye” produced by Isaac Hayes III, have become somewhat of underground classics for her followers and faithful supporters despite no official releases.

Since her beginnings at Hendu and Crossover Studio around 2003, Kayenne has been making her way in the music industry as an independent artist. In 2007, VIBE magazine, Creative Loafing newsweekly, and Rolling Out Magazine spotlighted Kayenne as a new artist worth watching - and listening to. Despite a period of homelessness for almost a year, in a continued effort to diversify her sound she began writing with such underground dance producers as Justin Chapman of KemeticJust, and later Kai Alce of NDATL Musik. In 2010, Alce and Kayenne would release the breakout No. 1 charting single "Someone", with help from veteran producer Phil Asher of Restless Soul. Carefully nurturing her newfound genre, Kayenne and Alce continue to collaborate on future singles and projects. Their latest single, "Love Don't Love You Back", keeps the lyrics simple, which makes the words of un-returned love more relatable. The tune starts out like a slow burn, with Kayenne's singing reminiscent of the embers of a passionate love gone wrong.

Before long, her voice - and the groove - bursts into flames and engulfs the listener. The backbeat is particularly notable, drawing you in as much as the heartfelt lyrics. The melody may be light, perfectly accompanying Kayenne's voice, but there's an unmistakable deep house base that makes the tune worth turning up. "Love Don't Love You Back" was released on legendary dance label Basement Boys Records, with remixes from label owner Teddy Douglas, and special thanks to Rick Corey, Byron The Aquarius & Terry Roanoke, and DJ Swift for the amazing video which can be found on YouTube.  “Hey Young World” was yet another chart topper to join the previous No. 1 hits, all of which remained in top ten soulful house category on Traxsource for weeks.  This single was blessed with exquisite trumpet playing by Kafele Bandele and a vocal remix by Andy Compton of The Rurals and has a haunting delivery that speaks to the hearts of an overlooked generation.  Kayenne has also worked with several other house producers such as DJ Salah Ananse on the powerful track with belting vocals, “I Must Be Dreaming”.

Since nearly fifteen years of residing in Atlanta, GA, Kayenne relocated back home to Baton Rouge, LA and is raising her now five-year-old daughter, Genesis.  Kayenne has continued to make various vocal appearances and work with overseas producers such as J Maloe and Tashan Venicini on Production Block Records in 2018, delivering the driving South African house beat collaboration on “Better Days” in 2019, a brand spanking new joint with her faithful and dedicated producer Armando Colone called “Simple Things”, and more music from Andy Compton called “Heaven” soon to be released. Kayenne is definitely an artist that may be a bit incognito, but will never go away.
